Summary: The Sr. Design Engineer researches, plans, specify, designs and installs mechanical and electromechanical products and systems within a manufacturing environment. Directs and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems by performing the following duties.
DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
The following duties and responsibilities are representative and may be expanded.
Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
Thorough understanding of conceptual design, design refinements, rapid prototyping, and design for high volume manufacturing.
Designs, specifies, and installs products or systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems. Will also be responsible for designing parts, sub-assemblies and large assemblies.
Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
Coordinates operation, maintenance, and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of machines and equipment.
Designs products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software.
Evaluates field installations and recommends design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions and improve efficiency and reliability.
Provide leadership and direction to insure the Personnel and Product Safety of processes and equipment, and participate actively in plant wide Safety teams and initiatives.
Provide leadership and resources to help identify and resolve process related issues.
Manage projects directly, and provide leadership to others on a resource basis as required.
Lead those within active sphere of influence to adhere to product and engineering standards and codes. Maintain accurate and complete prints and documentation on all projects managed directly.
Provide timely and accurate reporting on projects and activities as required.
Actively seek methods to reduce maintenance costs and improve equipment and system reliability.
Work closely with operations, engineering, and technical support personnel for day to day operations, on resolution of problems, and on process improvement initiatives.
Develop strong, positive communication links with all departments which include Production, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Scheduling, Purchasing, Human Resources and Information Services.
SUPERVISORY
Responsibilities:
No direct supervisory duties, but may provide direction to operations and contract personnel as needed.
EDUCATION AND
Experience:
Bachelors degree in a technical area of study (Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering degree) required.
A minimum of 5 years related experience in a manufacturing environment is needed.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Proficiency with AutoCAD and SolidWorks is preferred.
OTHER SKILLS:
Background training and experience in Allen Bradley PLC, AC/DC and Servo drive configurations is desirable.
Knowledge and experience in Six Sigma and Lean is also desirable.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
